Hello, my name is Dr. Derek Booz and I am a licensed chiropractic doctor from Palmer College of Chiropractic - Florida. I originally grew up in Pennsylvania where, as a kid, I was involved with as many sports as I could, but as time went on I honed in on soccer and dance. Through my time in high school I looked into getting involved with sport injuries due to the prevalence in seeing such injuries in team mates and fellow peers. I looked into athletic training, physical therapy, and chiropractic to further my education. Nearing the end of my undergraduate I decided that Chiropractic fit best for what I was looking for in a health care provider setting. So, having never seen a chiropractor before, I shadowed some chiropractors in my hometown to see what my future education and potential career could entail. Through my shadowing I learned how important chiropractors can be to providing treatment to patients, and how even in patients with similar issues we can provide tailored care that is different to each person based on their needs and goals. With this mindset for individuality in care, I decided that chiropractic would be my focus in a career.
For my graduate classes I had the opportunity to study at Palmer College of Chiropractic - Florida due to its learning environment being focused solely in chiropractic, its ability to provide care to a variety of patient demographics, and due to its evidence based practices taught in classes. Throughout my education and clinical time I have taken my time and energy to understand how to manage patient care in a variety of different methods. However, after graduating I decided to go for, and acquire, my certification in Active Release Techniques®. In my spare time I like to stay active and busy as a way to decompress. Even on busy days I always try to take some time to take casual walks to continue moving. To decompress I will always appreciate a fantasy book or a trip to the beach (Both are ideal). With my partner and I recently moving to the Chicago area I am not actively in any sports leagues. However, I am looking at potentially joining in the near future.
